Meet Our Team
Brian Bosgraaf, owner of Dwelltech Solutions, was brought up in a family real estate and home development business. In 1985, Brian and his father formed Bosgraaf Homes, which planned home developments in West Michigan.
In 2000, hoping to combine his passion for the lakeshore with his talent and expertise in home building, Brian formed his own home design company, Cottage Home. Since then, Cottage Home has successfully designed and built more than 50 custom homes along the shoreline of Southwest Michigan. Cottage Home is an active member of Green Built Michigan, and utilizes green building practices.
In 2008, Brian recognized the need for a home energy audit service with the growing emphasis on reducing fossil fuels and energy sources, and working with homes on the lakeshore enduring extreme seasons. He took it one step further by offering recommendations and repairing issues uncovered in the audit for greater comfort, lower utility bills and increased real estate value. Dwelltech Solutions was born.
Brian is well known as a leader in the home building industry, having been involved with the Home Building Association on a local, state and national level.
Joel Wondergem has over 20 years experience relating to the residential building and civil engineering fields. Joel's father was a home builder and residential developer. Having worked through high school and college for a landscape designer, independent builders, and an insulation contractor, Joel has had broad exposure to the many different facets of residential construction.
Joel also spent six years as a CAD draftsman for Nederveld Associates, and more recently, 12 years with Exxel Engineering as a planning specialist, where he managed researching properties, clientele contacts, and worked directly with area Townships and Counties.
Joel received his Building Analyst certification from The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI). The BPI is a recognized global leader in supporting the development of a highly professional building performance industry.
Joel advocates being good stewards of the resources we have, as well as being a voice and a presence in transforming the housing industry into one that provides homes that are energy and resource efficient, environmentally sensible, healthy and comfortable places to live.
Joel holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree in the field of Graphic Design from Kendall College of Design.
Steve Kloosterhouse began his career in residential construction 25 years ago to pay his way through college. Though his focus in college was education, Steve remained interested in home building. His choice to remain in this field allows him to use his college education training when teaching homeowners about building science and how to make their homes more energy efficient.
In the early 90's Steve started working for Bosgraaf Builders as a customer service technician. It was during these years Steve found his new passion: problem solving. Problem solving often requires looking past the obvious to find the real solution, so having a working knowledge of houses from hands-on experience proved to be extremely useful in servicing new homes. All of this experience has evolved into Steve knowing how to make today's homes more energy efficient.
Most recently, Steve's interests have focused green and sustainable building practices. He was one of the first to become an NAHB Certified Green Professional in Michigan and has also helped administer the LEED certification of five homes for Cottage Home, one of which is LEED Platinum certified.
Steve is also a licensed builder in the state of Michigan.
Rachel Beukema, Office Manager, graduated from Calvin College in Spring of 2009 with a degree in Business. Additionally, she has studied Accounting at Grand Valley State University. After a brief career in property management, Rachel realized that she is passionate in helping people feel safe and comfortable in their homes. Rachel comes to Dwelltech with a heart for stewardship and sustainability. Familiar with the struggles and triumphs of young companies, she is eager to utilize her gifts in this emerging industry.
John Kuiper, Audit Technician, has spent the past 30 years helping people with housing. His diverse career path is highlighted by his 11 years with Habitat for Humanity of Kent County, but ranges from Condominium Construction Manager to Community Organizer. John's journey has been marked by a continued commitment to energy efficiency since the '80's when he was teaching homeowners how to insulate their attics while building a passive solar addition to his own home.
John spent 7 years working for a community tool, paint and insulation program that assisted low income homeowners and for the Council of Neighborhood Associations, where he helped Grand Rapids neighborhood groups with planning, fundraising and housing issues. When John was hired as the Executive Director of Habitat, he was their first full time employee. The group relied on volunteers to build, and John wouldn’t ask a volunteer or future homeowner to do anything he wouldn’t try himself. 11 years later, Habitat volunteers were building 15 houses a year, and he had done every phase of construction right with them.
John worked for RDI Development for a couple years, where he managed the construction of 200 townhouses. He has also worked 6 years for Standale Lumber, where he was in charge of Green Building training for employees and customers.
In 2003, John saw his first blower door test with an infrared camera. It was surprising where the leaks were; it was obvious that traditional construction was not good enough; and it was clear that we could do better with attention to detail. He returned to Habitat briefly, and helped with 30 LEED for Homes Silver and Gold Certifications while monitoring the continuous improvement of their energy performance.
John holds a Bachelor of Science from Calvin College, is a licensed builder, a LEED AP and a certified HERS technician.
Shane McGrath, Audit Technician, holds a Bachelors of Science in Sustainable Business from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids. Time spent in high school environmental club created a passion and interest which has solidified into a career path. His career began at Steelcase as an environmental specialist analyzing and processing recycled content for Steelcase office furniture. Shane believes that a key strategy in the success of sustainability in society is to draw design insights and knowledge from natural systems.
Eric Timon, Audit Technician, is a graduate of Aquinas College with a Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Business. At a young age Eric gained an appreciation for the environment while becoming an Eagle Scout. He completed Kent Career Tech Center’s Pre-Engineering program during high school, yet soon fell in love with business in college. After graduating from Aquinas he became passionate about sustainability and always recognizes the importance of interconnections between the natural and built community.
After college Eric worked as a Sustainability Practices and Technology Intern with Amway's Environmental Health and Safety Department. Here he helped lead several Kaizen Energy events, completed Amway’s Carbon Disclosure Project, helped manage carbon emissions, and developed a plan for the most eco-effective use of the plant “waste” at the Nutrilite farms.
After joining Dwelltech in January 2011, Eric has been a great addition to the team as a Technician. Recognizing increased efficiency as an important step towards building a sustainable future, he is excited to help make a difference with people’s homes. He says, “Sustainability isn’t about having to cut back, you can make home improvements that not only save money and the environment, but also make your home healthy and comfortable”. Eric is excited to learn as much as he can about building science and is eager to become BPI Certified this May.
Scott Hauck, Lead Carptener. John 'Scott' Hauck started working with Dwelltech Solutions in January of this year after learning about Dwelltech's energy audit program by attending a neighborhood meeting. Scott's twenty eight years of experience in building comes from his work in both the commercial and residential industries. For the past 12 years, he has worked in home remodeling by referral from his neighbors and almost exclusively in his own neighborhood of historic homes.
Scott brings to DwellTech a keen sense of community being a resident of Eastown and life-long Grand Rapids resident. He understands the value of maintaining existing housing stock to help keep neighborhoods strong. Scott says that working for Dwelltech gives him the welcomed opportunity to be part of the future of the home performance contracting industry.
